Retrieval of Rs45bn dues ordered

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Shaukat Tarin directed Monday the concerned authorities to collect Rs45 billion outstanding dues from federal and provincial governments' institutions. This he said while presiding over a high-level meeting to take stock of the ongoing circular debt issue.
Shaukat Tarin was of the view that Pepco should speed up collection of its outstanding dues because delay in dues collection is creating problems. During a briefing given to the Federal Finance Minister, it was observed that there was Rs118billion circular debt in the country by January 2010. The meeting noted that the financial impact of 12 per cent increase in the power tariff would be visible within the next couple of weeks.
