 Transporters fleecing Eid travellers

Jamil Siddiqui
KARACHI: Up country bound passengers going to celebrate Eid-ul-Fiter with their relatives are facing great difficulty due to sky high fare demanded by the transporters.
According to a survey conducted by The Financial Daily it was revealed that due to the depilated situation of Pakistan Railways and suspension of several trains the situation of the private transporters has also worsened who are not only carrying the jam-packed load of upcountry bound passengers but are raising the fares under the pretext of the recent rise in the price of diesel.
"There is no check for this flagrant violation from the government and the passengers remain on the mercy of transporters,' one passenger complained.
The problem of acute shortage of buses remains as it was and is likely to accelerate during the last days of Eid-ul-Fiter.
The survey disclosed that transporters have refused to provide drinking water in the buses while most of the AC buses have the conditioning system out of order
There are lot of complaints that professional swindlers and armed robbers in connivance with the local police are also active and many passengers have reportedly lost their huge cash and costly goods.
The interior of many buses is in pathetic condition whereas due to no proper cleaning many passengers get sick.
Passengers also complained that upcountry bound coaches frequently stop at the unscheduled stops and are not adhering to the specified timings thus causing delays to reach their destinations.
