KARACHI: The 11th Children's Literature Festival (CLF) along with the first Teachers' Literature Festival (TLF)will take place in Karachi on 20-22 February 2014 in Karachi at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. CLF Karachi will be organized by Idara-e-Taleem-O-Aagahi (ITA) and Oxford University Press (OUP) in collaboration with Open Society Foundations (OSF), Karachi Youth Initiative ( KYI), Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, and Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh.
Founded by Baela Raza Jamil of Idara-e-Taleem-O-Aagahi (ITA) and co-founded by Ameena Saiyid of Oxford University Press (OUP) in collaboration with Open Society Foundations (OSF), it is a social movement in response to low levels of learning in Pakistan (ASER 2009-2013) to promote reading, creative writing, and critical thinking across Pakistan and beyond (www.childrensliteraturefestival.com) . In Karachi the CLF will launch the first one- day Teachers' Literature Festival (TLF) on20 Februar 2014, to engage with 2000 teachers on core concepts and practices of CLFs encouraging them to make their classrooms and schools implement them practically. On all three days this is a free Public event for ALL schools of Karachi and Sindh from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm of 14 learning mult-isensory programs to promote the culture of reading for creativity, imagination and stimulation beyond textbooks and tests. About 4000 teachers and 20,000 children are expected to attend the CLF/TLF. --PR
