Poor quality service ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued show cause notice to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on poor service quality, based on the results of the joint Quality of Service (QoS) survey conducted by the authority recently. The PTCL has been asked to submit reply within 30 days of the notice. The PTA, under the Telecom Act, reserves right to proceed legally, said a PTA spokesman. The QoS survey is a regular activity of PTA and the objective is to ensure that the interests of the consumers of telecommunication services are duly safeguarded and that the licensees are providing the telecom services as per the service quality standards of the license. PTA has been repeatedly informing PTCL about its poor QoS. The company was also directed to improve the quality as per license conditions; however, no improvement was seen in this regard. As a result, show cause notice has been served to initiate the proceedings against the licensee as per rules. According to the details, survey was conducted across Pakistan including major and small cities and rural areas from August to October 2009. It is the first instance that PTCL was show caused on account of poor quality of service which clearly shows the PTA's resolve for not compromising on sub-standard services to telecom consumers. Meanwhile, PTA Chairman; Dr Mohammad Yaseen, has said that ensuring quality services to consumers has always been top priority of the authority.-PR
