Psychologists' appointment at schools advocated

KARACHI: Chairperson Foundation for Rehabilitation & Education of Special Children (FRESH) Ashba Kamran has urged the government to make appointment of psychologists and special educators mandatory for all public and private schools to identify and train the slow learners, facing with learning disabilities.
She said the concept of mainstreaming -- aims at special training of slow learners after their separation from the normal children to overcome their learning disabilities -- was very common throughout the West. "But very little has been done on this front so far in Pakistan," she added.
Ashba Kamran expressed her concerns over the absence of psychologists and special educators in modern school systems of the country, leaving the children at the mercy of cruel ignorance of the society. Resultantly, she said, the slow learners are dropped out of the schools after making some futile efforts to pace with the normal children.
Chairperson Fresh said it is a strong desire of the parents, especially the affluent ones to admit their children with learning disabilities in normal schools where required facilities are missing terribly. -PR
