World lauds Women Bill, says Sharmila

KARACHI: Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqi on Tuesday said that Women Protection Bill was lauded in all over the world and certain countries are introducing such bills. Speaking to a seminar organised by Aurat Foundation in connection with International Women's Day at a local hotel, she said that violence against women usually start from home in which close relatives are found involved.
She said that Women's Day has been celebrated for a century but still we are striving for rights of women. She said in our society women are still being killed in the name of honour, adding incidents of acid throwing on women are also being reported.
She said the overall situation was improving as a number of women were playing their due role in welfare of women. In this regard she quoted names of Naseem Hameed and Saira Batool. She termed Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as a role model for women who devoted her whole life for the sake of country. Advisor also lauded the services of Aurat Foundation for the rights of women. -PPI
