Kinnow exporters earn over $100mn

KARACHI: Waheed Ahmed, Chairman all Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association has issued a press release that target of 0.2 million tonnes of kinnow export was set for the current season which has been surpassed and still export is on, thus the exporters of kinnow have earned more than 100 million dollars of foreign exchange.
Waheed Ahmed, who attended Halal food exhibition in Iran has stated that Pakistan do not accept LC opened by the Iranian importers which is a major hurdle in increasing our export of fresh fruit and vegetable to Iran.
He further stated that Indian traders visiting Iran are given visa on arrival whereas Pakistani traders/exporters have to apply for visa which is another obstacle; he mentioned that Iran is more than 100 million dollar market of fresh fruit, vegetable and food items.
He requested the government of Pakistan to accept the letter of credit from Iran and facilitate visa endorsement upon arrival in Iran so that Pakistani exporters could penetrate Iranian market.
