Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU)

Mian Amer Mahmood
Chancellor, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University

Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) is a private university in Pakistan named after Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The main campus is in Karachi; the other campus is in Islamabad. MAJU was established in 1998 after the grant of a charter by the Government of Sindh. MAJU, unlike some other institutions, which have a degree awarding status only, has a status of a comprehensive university. The university is affiliated with the Punjab Group of Colleges. Dr. Abdul Wahab, former vice chancellor of the University of Karachi, is the current president of the university. The university is rated in the X category by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan but it is letting down mainly due to Dr Wahab who by nature do not allow best faculty to work in the university. He has a craze that being a history in Education he is inevitable but to the best rationales every university management should try to find back ups and try to hire best faculty. This flaw can not be removed from a person who is more than of 70 years age. Two best PhDs sent from Lahore were not allowed to work and they left the university. The Chancellor Mian Amer mahmood should look in the matter seriously as ultimately it would further bring down rating of the university if not corrected. Mohammad Ali Jinnah University has departments of Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biosciences in the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences; in the Faculty of Business Administration and Social Sciences, there are departments of Business Administration, Economics and Social Sciences.
In addition to pure academic programs, MAJU runs training programs, seminars and workshops. The university has started doctoral programs in Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, and Management Sciences.
