GHARO, THATTA DISTRICT: Bringing essential women's health education closer to rural communities, Umeed by LADIESFUND, an initiative of Dawood Global Foundation, conducted a breast cancer awareness and empowerment session for 70 women at the SHINE Humanity Gharo Clinic. The session focused on making breast health knowledge accessible to women in rural Sindh, where community-based awareness initiatives can play an important role in helping women recognise potential warning signs and understand when to seek professional medical advice. Participants received practical guidance on breast self-awareness, identifying changes that warrant medical attention and the importance of early detection. By taking the session directly to Gharo, Umeed by LADIESFUND sought to ensure that breast health education reaches women within their own communities, rather than remaining concentrated in major urban centres. The initiative reflects the importance of delivering health information in accessible, trusted settings where women can learn about their wellbeing and make informed decisions about seeking care. "Every woman deserves access to information that can help her make informed decisions about her health, regardless of geography or circumstance. Through Umeed by LADIESFUND, we are taking breast cancer awareness directly to women, and reaching 70 women at the SHINE Humanity Gharo Clinic is an important part of that mission. Awareness gives women confidence, early detection gives them options, and partnerships like this allow us to take that message further," said Tara Uzra Dawood, Founder, LADIESFUND. Dr. Farwa Shahid, Senior Manager - Public Health, SHINE Humanity, said, "When women have access to the right health information, they are better equipped to recognise changes in their bodies and take timely action. Reaching women in communities like Gharo is particularly important because awareness must extend beyond hospitals and urban centres to where women live and raise their families. We are delighted to work with Umeed by LADIESFUND to make breast health education more accessible and encourage women to prioritise their wellbeing." The collaboration highlights the value of bringing preventive health education into rural healthcare settings and working alongside organisations already connected to local communities. Through its partnership with SHINE Humanity, Umeed by LADIESFUND continues to extend breast cancer awareness beyond city centres, encouraging women in rural Sindh to prioritise their health, recognise potential warning signs and seek timely professional medical attention. Through Umeed by LADIESFUND, Dawood Global Foundation remains committed to advancing breast health awareness and empowering women with knowledge that can help them take a more active role in their own health and wellbeing.
